Biome Serum — Skin Longevity

Visibly firmer, smoother, better-hydrated skin, and the resilience to keep it that way.

Most serums are built around one star ingredient. Biome Serum is built around how skin actually ages: on several fronts at once. It brings together three targeted peptides, prebiotic and postbiotic ingredients, protective ectoin and layered hydration in one formula. Every ingredient earned its place on the strength of evidence and research.

Why a multi-pathway serum

Skin doesn't age for one reason. Collagen production slows and fine lines form. Years of smiling, frowning and squinting etch expression lines. Skin holds less water and loses its plumpness. And the barrier, with the microbial community that helps protect it, becomes easier to upset.

Treat one of these and the others carry on. Biome Serum is formulated to address them all, together, in a single step.

Longevity: the peptide system

Three peptides lead the work on lines and firmness: two for firmness and one for expression lines. Ectoin works alongside them, helping protect skin from the everyday stresses that speed up visible ageing.

Targeted collagen peptides. Palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 and copper tripeptide-1 are two of skincare's most studied peptides: messengers that signal skin to renew its supporting structure. Here they travel in microscopic capsules designed to carry them to fibroblasts, the cells that make collagen. In the supplier's laboratory studies, the complex increased production of collagen types I and III, elastin and fibronectin, the proteins behind firm, springy skin.

An expression-line peptide. Argireline Amplified, an enhanced form of acetyl hexapeptide-8, helps soften the appearance of lines formed by repeated facial movement.

Ectoin. Ectoin is a protective molecule produced by microorganisms that thrive in extreme environments, such as salt lakes. It surrounds proteins and cell membranes with a stabilising shell of water, helping skin withstand everyday stresses such as dryness and environmental exposure.

Biome: skin ecology

Healthy skin depends on a balanced community of microorganisms living on its surface. Biome Serum supports that community with prebiotic and postbiotic ingredients.

A prebiotic. Alpha-glucan oligosaccharide is a plant-derived sugar that the skin's beneficial bacteria can use as food, helping to maintain a balanced skin environment.

A postbiotic. Bifida ferment lysate contains the inactivated contents of beneficial Bifidobacterium. It has been studied for its ability to calm sensitive skin and strengthen its resistance to everyday irritation.

A vitamin B9 ferment complex. Fermented folic acid, paired with dipotassium glycyrrhizate from liquorice root, selected for its research into irritation and skin clarity.

Ectoin, described above, is itself a product of microbial life: one more link between the formula's biome and longevity sides.

Hydration

A vegan matrix of hyaluronic acid in several molecular sizes, from large film-forming chains to small fragments, works alongside glycosaminoglycans to hydrate at different levels of the skin's surface layers. Crosslinked hyaluronic acid extends the effect, and glycerin draws in water and holds it. The result is skin that looks plumper and smoother.

Benefits

  • Helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Helps soften the look of expression lines
  • Supports firmer, more elastic-looking skin
  • Provides multi-level hydration
  • Helps keep skin looking plump and smooth
  • Supports the skin barrier and a balanced, resilient skin environment
  • Helps skin withstand everyday environmental stress
  • Helps calm the look of irritation and sensitivity
  • Supports clearer, more even-looking skin

Three of the key actives are backed by published, controlled human studies. See The Research tab below for details.

Skin longevity

Biome Serum isn't designed simply to address wrinkles after they appear. Its purpose is broader: to help maintain the qualities of younger-looking skin for as long as possible. That means smoothness, elasticity, hydration, resilience, plumpness and an effective barrier.

That is what we mean by skin longevity.

Who is it for?

For adults of all ages and skin types who want to keep skin healthy-looking and address the visible signs of ageing. Use it before significant signs of ageing appear, as part of a longevity-focused routine, or later to help improve the look of existing lines, dehydration and loss of firmness.

The Research

These studies tested individual ingredients in their own test formulations, not Biome Serum itself. We separate published, peer-reviewed research from supplier data, so you can see which is which.

Published research

  • Palmitoyl pentapeptide-4. In a 12-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 93 women, it significantly reduced fine lines and wrinkles compared with placebo (Robinson et al., 2005).
  • Ectoin. In a randomised, double-blind study of 104 women, a 2% ectoin cream was tested against its base cream for moisture, smoothness and elasticity, with results favouring ectoin (Heinrich et al., 2007).
  • Bifida ferment lysate. In a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 66 women with sensitive skin, a Bifidobacterium longum lysate significantly reduced skin sensitivity after two months (Guéniche et al., 2010).

Supplier research

  • Collagen peptide complex (palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 and copper tripeptide-1). In laboratory studies it increased production of collagen types I and III, elastin and fibronectin, and the supplier's clinical testing reported significant results at 30 and 60 days.
  • Vitamin B9 ferment complex. Human studies have shown anti-irritation effects. Research on the vitamin B9 ferment technology also reported an 83% reduction in measured facial porphyrins after four weeks.
  • Alpha-glucan oligosaccharide. Supplier research shows the skin's beneficial bacteria use it preferentially, helping to limit the growth of less desirable microbes.

Use morning and evening on clean skin. Smooth 3–5 pumps over the face and neck, before other serums. In the morning follow it with sunscreen. Biome Serum also works well as a makeup primer.

STORAGE

Store out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources. Best used within 12 months of opening.

INDICATIONS

Avoid the immediate eye area and other very sensitive areas. As with all skin products, stop using it if irritation develops. For external use only.
